On 25 April 1915, Australain troops landed on Turkey's Gallipoli peninsula in as allied attempt to seize control of the Dardanelles. The fighting quickly bogged down into a stalemate, with the Turks holding the heights abvove the Anzacs for the rest of the campaign. The battles in which the Australians fought there, are among the worlds most well-known of the First World War.
